Luxury Canadian lakeside estate home on Kootenay Lake, Nelson, BC for sale C$2,895,000 (for price in other currencies use http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/rates/converter.html )
Photos of 4294 Sundance Road A four seasons home for sale in Nelson,
British Columbia, Canada Welcome to Emerald Lakes This lovely estate home sits on 2 forested and landscaped acres on the shores of beautiful Kootenay Lake. The picture below is of the road leading down to the property. There is a lovely little forest on both sides of the road and a stream running along the property line.
The mountain ash is laden with berries this year (see photo below). That will make the birds happy during the winter. The conditions this summer were a perfect mix of sun and rain and there was a generous harvest of blackberries, plums, pears, and apples. Autumn was absolutely gorgeous this year with yellows, reds, and orange.
Bountiful mountain ash berries, blackberries, and orange foliage on the oak tree by the patio
Japanese maple near the portico and sumac near the lakeside gazebo
Pears in the small orchard and Fuji apples by the lake
View of the home as you enter the fenced grounds. The mountains that you see are on the far shore of the lake. It is crown land (protected park land with no future development). The homes on Sundance Road are covered by a covenant that protects the residential quality of the neighbourhood. This covenant allows for an office or studio for physicians, lawyers, engineers, writers, artists, and other professional people.
Magnolias in spring and view of the front door portico that provides protection for two cars from rain and snow.
One then enters the spacious, cathedral ceiling foyer from where you can see the dramatic pool atrium (solarium / conservatory) and the lake beyond. The former owners used the area to the right of the steps for plants whereas the current owner uses the area for seasonal displays (i.e. a small Christmas tree in December, Easter bunnies and eggs in the spring, flowers from the garden in summer). GRACIOUS INDOOR LIVING
The master bedroom and the second main floor bedroom are located to the left of the pool.
The spacious master bedroom has a lovely view of the lake and rose garden. The master bath is tiered with a very large jetted tub with his and hers back massage as well as a waterfall shower.
The master bedroom's bath (taken with wide angle lens).
The other main floor bedroom is a huge post and beam room with skylight. Both this bedroom and the master open onto the pool atrium through French doors. This room has a smaller, but elegant little bath with a two person jetted tub and shower. The two photos were taken from opposite ends of the room.
The post and beam dining room is large enough for two tables and perfect for those who love entertaining and large family gatherings. The large bay window provides a breathtaking view of the lake and garden.
The kitchen is very large with a spacious centre island and multiple wood cabinets on both sides. Azaleas outside the kitchen window bloom profusely in spring. The gazebo and lake can be seen from the kitchen. Not shown is the desk, generous bookcase, and breakfast table area. A small office (or sewing/crafts room) is located behind the cabinets to the right. It has a built in cabinet with drawers and closet as well as generous bookshelves. The room behind the kitchen is wired for high speed Internet. Directly above is the AGA which is without a doubt the world's best loved stove. You can be cooking a turkey in one oven, a pie in another, the cranberry sauce in a third, and keeping the rolls warm in the fourth. If the people who purchase the home do not want it, the current owner is happy to have it disassembled and reassembled at the new location (again). It is truly loved, but if someone else loves it, it stays. The wonderful people who built this house had lived for a time in the UK. They had the kitchen wired for both 110 and 220, so no need to throw away your 220 small appliances if you have them (a few 220 small appliances come with the kitchen including a rice cooker, crock pot, wok, and buffet unit).
The den is located just off the kitchen and has access to the living room to the right.
Although the room above is currently being used as an office, the photo above shows how the original owners used the room as a living room and the room beyond as a dining room (the den shown in the photo above this photo). Beautiful custom-made double doors have been added to the entrance to the foyer at the left.
This wide angle photo shows the balcony and hallway to the three bedrooms and two baths.
The current owner also uses the balcony for display of oriental art (located where the horse scroll above is located).
This is one of the three bedrooms upstairs. To the right is the bubble jetted tub for this room's bathroom located across the hall.
The photo above is of the second bedroom and bath. This bedroom has a lovely view of the garden.
This is the third upstairs bedroom. All three upper level bedrooms have spacious built-in closets. FABULOUS OUTDOOR LIVING ON THE LAKE This estate is for people who love both indoor and outdoor living. It is paradise for those who love gardening and being outside. Few places can match this location for four seasons beauty and bounty. Your children and/or grandchildren will delight in the fruits of the garden. The gifts of the garden can be frozen for later baking, canned, or baked in delicious cakes or coffee cakes to be enjoyed when the snow flies. SPRING ON KOOTENAY LAKE
The current owner's first spring here was like opening a dusty old chest and having jewels of many different colours tumble out.
These are the first to appear in the spring! The crocus can be seen from the kitchen window and the flame shaped yellow flower appears in the stream that runs along the property.
The lakeside forsythia are one of the first to bloom. Pollination underway. I think this is a cherry tree
Forsythia in early spring in front of the patio and windows of the pool atrium
Azalea just outside the kitchen window Close-up of ornamental cherry shown below
The ornamental cherry tree in front of the portico. When the wind blows, the petals fall like pink rain.
Apple Blossoms of Granny Smith tree near lake on 18 May 2008. The bees did their job well and we will have a bountiful harvest this year.
The rhododendron at the front and sides of the house are spectacular in spring.
Spring is not just visual.......the lilac and magnolia fill the air with heady perfume.
The clematis on the trellis by the hot tub
26 April 2008 - The rhubarb in the upper perennial garden is doing well and it will not be long before we can make a delicious rhubarb cake (ask Mary for the recipe).
There are two large strawberry patches and more strawberries in the upper perennial garden. They are at their most bountiful in May and June.
The spirea and yellow rhododendron are also spectacular SUMMER
The outdoor living in summer is fantastic. This was taken before the current owner. The hot tub is now located where you see the BBQ. (Note: this was taken with a wide angle lens and is somewhat distorted)
The lupine provide gorgeous colour around the yard in early summer.
Entrance to the dock It should be called "Rainbow Lake"
Roses, roses, roses.........and all aromatic! A variety of colours line the patio and path There are great mounds of white and blue hydrangea to the left of the front door
After the strawberries come the cherries.
After the cherries come the raspberries and then the blackberries in August & September.
2007 saw a bumper crop of blackberries and the same is true for 2008
The circular drive and entrance portico. Very large workshop/garage shown on left.
Photos of the inside of the upper detached garage. There is a large worktable and generous built-in shelving . Not shown is an enclosed room that can be used as a workshop or gym. The photo on the right in the second row is the mezzanine above the enclosed workshop/gym. The enclosed workshop below is the same size. Someone commented..........."Wow, that is a contractor's garage!" AUTUMN Every season is beautiful here as the photos below will attest.
As seen from the dock in autumn
The gazebo and the sumac. There is now another smaller sumac near the gazebo.
The oak is larger now and is beautiful seen from the foyer
The pear tree was generous in its bounty in 2007 and we had a lovely crop of plums and apples as well. 2008 promises and equally generous harvest. The pears are great in sweetened coconut milk or baked in crumbles or cakes. The apples can be stored all winter in the upper garage workshop. WINTER There are beautiful winters in the Kootenays with wonderful powder skiing at Whitewater near Nelson and Big Red in Rossland. We have had a White Christmas every year we have been here....... a rarity in today's world. This lovely home is cozy warm in winter thanks to superb insulation, in-floor radiant heat as well as forced air heating. Our temperatures in winter fluctuate around freezing.
Snow on trees. One of our feathered friends stopping by for lunch.
The cathedral ceiling dining room is the perfect place for a large Christmas tree and elegant entertaining..
View of the lake from the dining room bay window.

After skiing, relax in the heated indoor pool ................

..........or warm up in the spacious cedar sauna or patio hot tub!
This is a remarkable property, in a remarkable location, and close to a remarkably sophisticated small town. Nelson is known for its culture and art, its interesting restaurants, and for its wonderful mixture of people.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPERTY: Emerald Lakes is truly a four seasons paradise. This stunning post & beam estate home with dramatic entry portico sits on two forested and landscaped acres directly on Kootenay Lake in southeastern British Columbia, Canada. It is halfway between Calgary and Vancouver and 3 ˝ hours north of Spokane, Washington. The indoor pool located in a tropical pool atrium with cathedral ceiling is the breathtaking centre of the home. Tropical plants (banana, bird of paradise, pineapple, etc.) thrive in the atrium (also called solarium or conservatory) and summer planters and hanging baskets can over-winter here as well. A spacious cedar sauna helps melt away stress as does the 8-person Beachcomber hot tub located on the spacious patio in front of the pool atrium. A large BBQ with gas hookup on the patio is great for parties and family gatherings. Two large master bedrooms open onto the pool atrium through French doors. One of these has a view of the lake and rose garden and a tiered luxury bath with two-person jaccuzi tub and waterfall shower, The other main floor bedroom is a dramatic post and beam room with skylight and lovely two-person jaccuzi bath. Profuse rhododendron in spring and white and blue hydrangea in summer grow outside the latter bedroom. The dining area is post and beam construction with a cathedral ceiling and large bay window that affords a spectacular view of the lake and garden. Close by is the huge beautiful gourmet kitchen with multiple cabinets that line both sides, a desk, and book cases for a large cookbook collection. A huge island runs almost the entire length of the room, but the pride of the kitchen is the blue AGA stove with backsplash of Italian tiles that provides warm “hugs” and the best cooking of any stove or cooker on the market (the AGA can be included in the sale for those who value it). There is a small office (sewing room) behind the kitchen, as well as a powder room, and a generous laundry area and attached garage with attic storage space.. There are two other rooms of generous size on the main floor that can be used for a living room to entertain guests (or for an office) and a den off the kitchen. There are three bedrooms and two baths upstairs. One bath has a standard soaker tub and the other has a two-person bubble jetted tub. A huge garage with workshop, mezzanine for storage, and room enough for an RV or truck is located on the property. The landscaped area of the property is fully fenced and there are two fenced dog runs as well as two gazebos. The yard has multiple fruit trees and berry bearing plants. The bounty begins with the strawberries, then cherries, then raspberries, followed by the blackberries and red currants. The plums, pears, and finally the apples are the gifts of autumn. There is an upper perennial garden with rhubarb, parsley, herbs, kiwi, blueberry, and multiple beautiful perennial flowers. Spring is breathtaking with spectacular azalea, rhods, lilac, forsythia, and much more. The property has a beach, a stream running beside the property, and a dock. The lake abounds with wildlife and the land on the opposite shore is Crown Land (park). The glacial water in the lake is reputed to be some of the best in the world. The home has both inslab and forced air heating as well as very effective air-cooling for the summer. This is a remarkable home for those that love the four distinct seasons, for those that love water, and for those who love the outdoors in all seasons. The home is located in Nelson, British Columbia near some of the best powder skiing in the world (Whitewater near Nelson and Big Red in Rossland).
