SPRING ON KOOTENAY LAKE                          The current owner's first spring here was like opening a dusty old chest and having jewels of many different colours tumble out. Second photo is view of lake from side yard. The rhododendron at the front and sides of the house are spectacular in spring. Spring is not just visual.......the lilac and magnolia fill the air with heady perfume.   The clematis on the trellis by the patio 26 April 2008 - The rhubarb in the upper perennial garden is doing well and it will not be long before we can make a delicious rhubarb cake (ask Mary for the recipe). There are two large strawberry patches and more strawberries in the upper perennial garden. They are at their most bountiful in May and June. The spirea and yellow rhododendron are also spectacular This lovely estate home sits on 2 forested and landscaped acres on the shores of beautiful Kootenay Lake. The picture below is of the road leading down to the property. There is a lovely little forest on both sides of the road and a stream running along the property line. The homes on Sundance Road are covered by a covenant that protects the residential quality of the neighbourhood. The apples can be stored all winter in the upper garage workshop. WINTER There are beautiful winters in the Kootenays with wonderful powder skiing at Whitewater near Nelson and Big Red in Rossland. We have had a White Christmas every year we have been here....... a rarity in today's world. This lovely home is cozy warm in winter thanks to superb insulation, in-floor radiant heat as well as forced air heating. Our temperatures in winter fluctuate around freezing. The 2010 Winter Olympics are being held in Whistler, British Columbia this year. 	PLEDGE TO HAITI The owner of Emerald Lakes has made donations to Haiti relief funds and has volunteered to go down to help with the relief effort. However, that does not feel sufficient in the face of this terrible disaster. The following Chinese proverb seems appropriate for Haiti's long term recovery: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Toward that end, the owner of this property pledges that when this home sells, an initial fund of $100,000 will be made available in Haiti for training and micro-loans to help some of the quake victims start to rebuild their lives. The objective will be to help them start or re-start a business or trade that will support them in the years to come. The owner will travel to Haiti to make contacts and set up the fund. p.s.
